Yoga mats
Yoga mats are sometimes called sticky mats and are commonly used in
most yoga classes for traction and cushioning. Most mats are made from
synthetic materials and can be purchased for around $25. Other people
prefer mats made from natural materials such as rubber and jute and
these mats may cost more than a synthetic mat.
Most yoga mats come in a standard size of 24” x 68” and
are generally not very thick. Many yoga studios offering a yoga class
will often have mats you can rent for a nominal price. Those people
wishing to practice yoga at home usually buy their own mats and bring
their mats to yoga class for financial and hygienic reasons.
The purpose of yoga mats is ultimately to create your own personal
space during a yoga class. It also serves as traction for your hands
and feet for many of the yoga poses, particularly as you get sweaty.
For those who plan to bring their own yoga mat to class, check ahead
with the studio to see if they can store your mat for you.
